How to Play Tag Game
Tag Game is an arcade chase about reading angles and staying calm under pressure. Avoid It, and if you get tagged, chase down a bot before your countdown expires.
Play TagThe objective
Survive the chase. Never stay It for long.
Tag Game is a single-player browser arcade game with one decision, made constantly: which way to run. Four runners share the arena — you and three AI chasers — and one of them is always "It," marked with a red ring.
If It touches you, you become It, and a countdown ring appears around your character. Tag any other bot before it reaches zero to pass It along and keep running. Fail, and the run ends. There is no final level and no win screen — the chase simply gets faster the longer you last.
The game is free, runs in the browser, and does not require an account. Open play Tag when you want the arena; use this guide when you want the rules, the controls, and the habits that keep a run alive.
Controls
WASD, arrow keys, or drag to steer
Movement is continuous and analog, not grid-based — hold a direction to keep running that way, and release your dash the instant it counts.
Keyboard
WASD / Arrow keys
Both key sets move you at once, so use whichever hand feels natural. Movement is analog — hold a direction to keep running that way, and diagonals work by holding two keys together.
Dash
Spacebar
A short, fast burst in your current direction of travel. It has a cooldown shown in the HUD, so save it for the moment it actually matters instead of tapping it on reflex.
Phone & tablet
Drag & Dash button
Touch and drag anywhere on the arena to steer — your character moves toward your finger. A dedicated Dash button sits in the corner for the same speed burst as Spacebar.
The loop
Four steps, repeated every run
Every run follows the same sequence. Understanding it is most of what "getting good" at Tag Game means.
- 1
Run from It
One chaser on the field is "It" — shown with a red ring. If It is a bot, keep your distance; if It touches you, you become It instead.
- 2
Tag someone back
The moment you become It, a countdown ring appears around you. Chase down any bot and touch them before it runs out to pass It along and go back to running free.
- 3
Use your dash
Press Space (or tap Dash on mobile) for a short burst of speed. Use it to slip away from a chaser, or to close the gap on a bot while your own countdown is ticking.
- 4
Survive the ramp
The longer a run goes, the faster the chasers get. There is no timer to beat and no level to pick — just an endless chase that keeps raising the stakes.
Scoring & game over
How a Tag Game run is actually scored
The rules never change mid-run. Only the chaser speed climbs as time goes on.
The objective
Survive as long as possible without being caught while It. If a chaser touches you, you become It and get a short countdown to tag a bot back — succeed, and you keep running; fail, and the run ends.
Scoring
You earn points every second you are not It. Successfully tagging a bot back while your own countdown is running adds a bonus on top. There is no score for time spent as It, so speed matters more than distance covered.
Game over
The run ends the instant your It countdown reaches zero without a successful tag. There is no move limit and no separate lives — one missed countdown ends the run.
Difficulty ramp
Chaser speed increases gradually the longer a run lasts. It is the same rule set from the first second to the last — only the chasers get faster around you.
Use Restart from the in-game menu to start a fresh run at any time. Details on local saves and resets live in the Tag Game FAQ.
Chase stages
How the difficulty ramps up
There is one endless mode, not a menu of difficulties. Chaser speed increases in steps as a run goes on — full details are on the chase levels page.
- 01 · 0–20 seconds
Warm-up
Chasers move at their base speed. This is the easiest the game will ever be — use it to learn the arena layout, the obstacle positions, and where the boost pads sit.
- 02 · 20–90 seconds
Picking up speed
Bot speed increases in small steps every 20 seconds. Nothing changes about the rules — the chase just gets tighter, and your margin for a wrong turn shrinks.
- 03 · 90+ seconds
Overdrive
Chasers approach their speed cap. Surviving here is mostly about positioning before It gets close, since there is less room to out-turn a chaser once they are already on you.
- 04 · No ceiling
Endless
There is no win screen and no final level — the run simply continues, getting harder, until you are tagged and cannot tag back in time. Your best survival time and score are saved locally so you always have a number to beat.
Common mistakes
Why most runs end early
Tag Game losses are usually timing errors, not bad luck. These are the patterns that end a promising run.
Running in a straight line
A chaser with a speed advantage will always close a straight-line gap eventually. Cut toward obstacles and change direction before It has a clean angle on you.
Panicking the instant you become It
The countdown feels shorter than it is. Take the half-second to pick the nearest realistic target instead of sprinting at whichever bot you saw first.
Burning your dash too early
A dash used from far away just closes distance that a chaser can regain. Save it for the final few steps of a chase, in either direction.
Ignoring the boost pads
A speed boost is free distance in a game about margins. Route your escape (or your chase) past one when it is not far out of the way.
Strategy habits
Tips to survive longer
Treat these as habits, not shortcuts. The rules never change; your timing does. For a deeper walkthrough, see the full tips page.
- Watch which bot is currently It before you move — running toward it by accident is the most common way to get tagged.
- Save your dash for the moment It gets within arm's reach, not the moment you see them across the arena.
- When you become It, target the nearest bot immediately — the countdown is short, and chasing the closest target beats chasing the "easiest" one.
- Boost pads refill their glow a few seconds after use — loop past one on your way past a chaser instead of detouring for it.
- Corner a bot against an obstacle before tagging back; bots that are still turning are easier to catch than ones with open space to flee into.
- Sound cues (a rising tone as It closes in) work even when you are focused on the opposite side of the screen — keep audio on if you can.
Where you can play
Same game on phone and desktop
Tag Game runs in any modern browser. You do not install an app from a store. If two devices disagree about your best score, that is expected: progress never leaves the browser you played in.
Desktop browsers
Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all run Tag Game with no plugin. WASD or the arrow keys move you; Space dashes — no mouse required once a run is underway.
Phones and tablets
Tag Game is touch-first. Drag anywhere on the arena to steer, and tap the on-screen Dash button for a speed burst. Landscape orientation gives the widest view of incoming chasers.
Progress on this device
Your best score, longest survival time, and games played live in local browser storage. They stay until you reset them or clear site data, and they do not sync across devices.
