Tag Game Strategy Tips

A practical strategy guide for Tag Game: reading chaser angles, timing your dash, and the habits that keep a run alive longer as the chase escalates.

The core idea

Timing beats speed

Nearly every strong Tag Game run comes down to the same idea: your dash and your positioning matter more than raw reaction speed. Everything below builds on spending your dash and your angle choices deliberately instead of on reflex.

  • 01

Read the angle, not the distance

A chaser two steps away but closing at an angle you can outrun is less dangerous than one directly behind you at twice the distance. Watch where It is heading, not just how far away it is.

  • 02

Save your dash for the final step

A dash used from across the arena just closes a gap the chaser can regain by the time you arrive. Hold it until the last moment — either to slip past a closing chaser, or to close the final few pixels on a bot you are trying to tag back.

  • 03

Pick the nearest bot when you become It

The countdown is short enough that travel time matters more than which bot looks "easiest." The instant you become It, target whoever is closest and commit — recalculating mid-chase costs you the seconds you cannot spare.

  • 04

    Use obstacles to cut corners

Running a tight line around an obstacle can shake a chaser that has to take the wider path around it. It also works in reverse: cornering a bot against an obstacle makes it easier to tag back.

  • 05

Route past boost pads, do not detour for them

A speed boost is free distance, but only if grabbing it does not cost you more time than it saves. Learn the pad positions so you naturally pass through one while running your normal escape or chase line.

  • 06

Play the long game on the ramp

Chaser speed increases gradually, not suddenly. If a run is going well, stay disciplined rather than getting greedy — the difficulty will find you on its own; you do not need to take extra risks to make it "count."

By stage

How strategy shifts as the run goes on

The same habits apply throughout, but how much room they give you changes with the ramp. Full stage details are on the chase levels page.

  • Early runs (0–30s)

Chasers are at their slowest here. Use this window to learn the arena layout — obstacle positions, boost pad locations, and how far a chaser can lead you before it catches up.

  • Mid runs (30–120s)

Speed increases start compounding. This is where the corner-and-obstacle tricks pay off most, since a straight chase is increasingly winnable by the chaser rather than you.

  • Long runs (120s+)

Chasers approach their speed cap. Survival here is almost entirely about positioning before It gets close — once a fast chaser is already adjacent, there is little room left to out-turn it.
